Agence LUCIE was the first in France to develop CSR certification in 2006, at a time when few people were interested in sustainable development. Since then, LUCIE has developed several international certifications (including two which are aligned with the ISO 26000) as well as their sector-specific guidelines (in French), to facilitate certification for all organisations (companies, NGOs, local authorities), regardless of the sector of activity, size, issues or level of maturity in terms of social responsibility.

We are currently working on a certification which aims to account for an organisation’s activities within planetary and social limits, for a really scientific measurement of its impacts. This ambitious and innovative certification goes further than standard CSR approaches, even the most demanding. This ambitious certification offers a practical and transformative methodology to measure an organisation’s impact, lay the foundations for growth and mobilise the necessary investment to respect our planet’s limits.

What is CSR certification?

CSR certification is an independent recognition that an organisation has structured and integrated social responsibility into all of its activities. It is awarded after an external evaluation aligned with recognised guidelines and standards.

How can my company obtain CSR certification?

The approach depends on how mature your company is. With LUCIE, you choose the certification which is appropriate for your situation, carry out an evaluation (remotely or on-site depending on the level), consult your stakeholders and build an action plan, which is rolled out as a structured programme. Our most demanding certifications are then approved by an independent certification committee.

What is the difference between LUCIE 26000 and LUCIE ESG?

Both labels are in-depth and aligned with the ISO 26000 standard. LUCIE 26000 is the leading certification to build a comprehensive CSR approach, while LUCIE ESG is aimed at organisations covered by the European CSRD, or those who need to meet ESG reporting requirements from their purchasers or funders.

Is CSR certification compulsory?

No, CSR certification is voluntary. Clients, investors and public purchasers increasingly expect it, but it remains a responsible choice rather than a legal obligation. It is a way of demonstrating your commitment in a credible way, in light of recognised standards.

How long does CSR certification take?

It depends on the certification and your starting point. LUCIE certifications take the form of a structured approach over 2-4 years, with support at every stage and length of certification which gives you the time to transform you commitments into results.

CSR certification is an external and independent recognition that an entire company has integrated corporate social responsibility into its way of working and its practices. In contrast to an individual certificate, it is binding on the entire organisation and is based on a field evaluation conducted in line with recognised standards and guidelines, certification or accreditation, issued by an independent third party and never self-declared. It is an external analysis, backed up with thorough governance, which gives a certification its value with your clients and stakeholders.

LUCIE certification evaluates the three pillars of a credible approach: environmental, social and governance (ESG). It analyses your environmental practices, your management and your overall strategy, in line with the ISO 26000 standard, the international standard in terms of social responsibility. For our most demanding certifications, an independent certification committee examines each application and approves your action programme and initiatives, while the approach becomes a real overarching and structural driver to control your impact on the environment. It feeds into genuine sustainability, aligned with the issues of sustainable development, which cannot be guaranteed with a simple certificate.

The benefits are concrete: better credibility with your clients, easier access to markets and tenders, improved skills for your teams and professionals, a favourable and measurable impact on the environment and society, and the involvement of your staff around a shared project. Far more than occasional training, certification generates a real professional community and supports the responsible development of your company, with support provided at each stage.

It’s easier than it looks to get started. LUCIE offers several certification levels, from the first tentative steps through to the most advanced: you begin at a stage which corresponds to your CSR maturity and strategy. Every level is built like a structured programme, governed by a clear policy and professional support to develop in-house skills. Regardless of size, once a company is certified it joins a community of certified organisations and accesses a more responsible and sustainable model.
