LUCIE ESG certification is aligned with the ESRS norms in the European CSRD, which obliges companies covered by the Directive to report their environmental and social indicators and facilitate their responses to purchasers, funders and other stakeholders by providing turnkey, structured data following the ESRS. The best thing about this certification? CSRD, a new challenge for large companies
The CSRD (“Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive”) is a European directive on sustainability. The aim of the CSRD is the enable everyone to easily identify the policies and indicators obtained by their suppliers, clients and partners regarding CSR. The obligations to produce a report on extra-financial topics such as environmental, social and governance issues (ESG) are currently being reviewed as part of the European “Omnibus” legislative package.
A certification which is adapted to all organisations
LUCIE ESG certification is aimed at all companies, regardless of size or sector of activity, with high levels of commitment and CSR ambition:
Companies covered by the CSRDà
for organisations with more than 1,000 employees and a net turnover over 450 million euro / and net turnover over 450 million euro for foreign organisations.
Companies not covered by the CSRD
wishing to introduce a CSR policy in line with this regulation to facilitate interaction with their stakeholders.
The steps to obtaining LUCIE ESG certification
With LUCIE ESG certification, the CSRD becomes clear and actionable in practical terms. Operating on the same principle as the LUCIE 26000 certification, it helps you in a structured way to implement a four-year action plan to become more committed and responsible.

We answer your questions
LUCIE ESG certification is totally separate from any CSRD reporting requirements. The CSRD sustainability audit validates the compliance and transparency of published data, while the LUCIE ESG certification measures your CSR performance (in other words your CSR maturity).
Finally, the certification measures how you meet your commitments over time as well as your progress.
LUCIE ESG is the only certification on the market which enables your CSR strategy to be linked to ESRS standards. It also includes a few elements from ISO 26000 which are not covered by the CSRD.
Its processes and the requirements for obtaining it are the same as for the LUCIE 26000 certification, which corresponds to the 10 principles recommended by the French High Commissioner for Strategy for choosing your CSR certification
- The LUCIE ESG certification is a Level 2 certification equivalent to LUCIE 26000. This certification is aligned with ESRS standards in the European CSRD Directive. It makes it possible to connect your CSR certification process with your CSRD obligations.
- A multi-step certification process:
- Initial training (two days)
- Self-assessment
- An initial on-site audit including an interview with internal and external stakeholders (score of 500/1,000 points required)
- Drafting an action plan (your commitments)
- Approval of your action plan by an external CSR committee of experts
- Award of the certification for four years
- An audit to monitor the action plan remotely 2 years after certification

- Compulsory two-day training for at least one person
- An annual subscription (based on your turnover or operating budget); brand licensing fee including access to all LUCIE Community tools, services and events
- The cost of on-site audits (initial and monitoring), based on the number of staff and sites

LUCIE ESG certification facilitates compliance with the CSRD by structuring your CSR strategy according to the ESRS norms on which it is based. It thus becomes easier to undertake extra-financial reporting and to publish the information required by the Directive. Certification is based on this recognised reference framework to improve transparency, notably concerning carbon emissions.
ESG certification is not compulsory for companies. However, it is an asset when it comes to demonstrating their commitment in terms of sustainability and meeting their legal obligations. The various practices adopted during a LUCIE ESG certification procedure also allow companies to promote their responsible commitments to clients, investors and other stakeholders.
